When the pandemic hit, the lives of millions changed drastically and left hundreds of thousands of immigrant workers without jobs. José Ignacio—a dairy farmer, activist and @MigrantJusticevt coordinating committee member—couldn't stay silent about this.
Despite being called essential, immigrant workers like José have been totally left out of government aid. José and his fellow members at Migrant Justice created a proposal for the state of Vermont to provide stimulus funds to all immigrant families who had been excluded from federal relief. After months of organizing, the proposal passed and Vermont has created the fund—a precedent for other states.
It's not enough to simply say that immigrants are essential. It must be followed up with action + that is what Jose fought for and won!
Immigrant rights are human rights.
